In the late 1960s and early 1970s, popular northern soul records generally dated from the mid-1960s.This meant that the movement was sustained (and "new" recordings added to playlists) by prominent DJs discovering rare and previously overlooked records.The film is an authentic and uplifting account of two young boys whose horizons are opened up by the discovery of black American soul music.No longer satisfied with the prospect of a small town life and a factory production lin , they dream of going to America to discover super rare records which will help them become the best DJs on the Northern Soul scene.The film was a 15-year labour of love for writer/director Elaine Constantine that experienced real difficulties getting off the ground.Turned down by all the major funding bodies, key festivals and institutional production partners in the UK, the film was eventually funded through a mix of private investors and Constantine's substantial personal investment.It tells the story of two young Lancashire teenagers, Matt and John, whose lives are changed forever by the discovery of American soul music and the dance culture that grew up around it in Britain.The film was selected to be shown in the City to City section of the 2015 Toronto Film Festival.
